The Eye of Tzeentch

Once again something I painted for a friend, a group of Chaos Knights of Tzeench for WHFB. I wanted to try something different here, so I made an extensive use of the new GW washes: in particular the armour on both horses and riders has been painted only with multiple layers of Asurman Blue Wash straight on white primer, with no paint at all. I am quite pleased with the result, but I am always open to advice and constructive criticism

Accepting Commissions again

Posted in News on January 20, 2009 by warcolours

After a hyatus, I have decided to begin accepting small commissions again. These will have to be small commissions (no armies please, and units will have to be discussed) and can be in scales ranging form 6mm up to 28mm, both historical and fantasy. If you are interested you can contact me via email listing what you will like to have painted and I will get back to you with a quote for timing and price for different painting standards.

Skinny Dipping

This is part of a small commission for a friend, a Vampire Counts army for Warhammer Fantasy Battle. It’s really a quick job aimed exclusively for gaming purposes, not for winning any painting competition so I used the Army Painter to produce a large number of decent wargame level figures in a very short time.

I must confess that Army Painter has now become my tool of choice for wargame level 28mm figures: it doesn’t work so well on smaller scales, in my opinion, but on 28mm is simply great in bringing up all the detail and giving you nicely shaded models in a moment, with the plus of giving them also a great protection as it works as gloss coat too. You need to get used to it, mind you: selecting the colours that might work better with it and finding the right way to get rid of the excess of AP on the miniature once you dip it, but I think the learning curve is quite gentle and I definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants a good looking army painted in a reasonable time: as I said, probably won’t win you a painting competition (though armies I painted this way have won Best Painted awards at some tournaments), but you will have a nice army soon. I will add some eye candy so you can make your own mind on the results…

First of all, some Zombie wolves

Finally some wraiths

To lead an army you need some suitable heroes: the first one ready is the infamous (for those who are familiar with the WHFB background) Konrad Von Carstein. This mini, however, was not dipped but painted normally with full shading and highlighting. I think that this is the best method to get an interesting army ready soon, dipped rank and files will give you a solid, good looking core, and wil allow you to go to town painting the characters to add som real eye candy

Next I am completing a generic Vampire Count Lord model (the one with an arm morphing into a bat wing) and I hope to have it ready soon to showcase it here. In the meantime, I hope you will enjoy these…

Starting it all over again

Posted in Painting on August 20, 2008 by warcolours

That’s exactly what this is, after all: after the demise of the Warcolours website following the conclusion that a painting studio, at least here where I live, is not going to generate enough cash to survive, I will try to use this area to keep showing some of the things I still keep painting, though mainly for myself right now. Actually I still have some little commission going on, but that is a rare occurrence that needs to find me with enough spare time and and actual desire to paint something for other people rather than for myself. As a matter of fact, in the past few years I have not been able to paint anything for myself so, now that this is back to being an hobby, I will try to change this…

What can be expected in the next weeks? Well, there are several things I am working on: I am tackling a largish project involving two armies (French and British) for napoleonic wargaming in 6mm (using the excellent Polemos System) and I am completing a small commission (contradicting myself, apparently) for a Vampire Counts WHFB army for a friend. Both should receive some attention soon, as I get some pictures done.

On my workbench, in the meantime, there are a couple of projects for The Miniatures Page (British Riflemen for Sharpe Practice and a Royal Horse Artillery Battery for Flames of War), more Napoleonic in 6mm and quite a lot of stuff for Warhammer… as they say, stay tuned…
